Drafting and Architecture Schools

Thursday, April 9th, 2009

A drafting table is still a great ergonomic choice, too. It allows you to sit comfortably and keep your back straight, preventing aching and tight muscles from working for a long time with incorrect posture. If you decide to purchase a drafting table, there are a few things to watch for. First of all, it is a big piece of furniture, so make sure you have the room for it. If your preference is for a beautiful old oak and brass antique drafting table, make sure your floors will hold the weight. Some of these lovely old fellows are very heavy.

Good drafting chairs also have ample cushioning on the end for supporting the knees, on the curve for the small of the back, and on the seat itself for supporting the weight of the person sitting on it. The cushioning in drafting chairs is important because it prevents the muscles from going sore because of sitting down for so long, particularly for the lower back and the buttocks. The padding on the end of the chair is supposed to prevent the back of the knees from getting pinched, which would prevent the blood from flowing freely through the body.

A wooden drafting table is fairly easy to find and depending on your budget, it can even be made to your specifications. They will range in price from a few hundred dollars to several thousands, so take a look and find one that is the most reasonable for you. You may also want to consider the use of an artist table, which will allow the work surface to be tilted upwards of 90 degrees.

But if your job requires that you stand as well as sit while working, a larger table with a multi-adjusting top will probably suit you better. These types of tables normally have a foot controlled peddle that releases the top for immediate re-adjustment. As well as being able to adjust the angle of the stable surface, you can also adjust the height, and reposition the work surface anywhere from perfectly horizontal to perfectly vertical. This greater degree of flexibility is ideally suited to professionals who often stand when they work.

As you can see there are many advantages to having a drafting table in your home. Think about the way that you do your work and make sure that when you do so, you are as comfortable as you can be! Take a look at what a help drafting tables can be to you.
