Wedding Ceremony - How To Make It Perfect

Sunday, January 17th, 2010

Planning a wedding can be really stressful because it is that special event in your life, which you don’t want to take any chances with. You want the event to be perfect without any hiccups, but it is not so easy to achieve that. It requires strategic planning and a cautious execution of the plan to avert the problematic situations that usually emerge at marriages.

How much you are prepared to spend on the marriage is a prime consideration that must precede any planning. Though weddings are grand affairs that require a lot of expenditure, there are some ways that can be of valuable help in lessening the expenses. For instance, a creatively gifted relative can take up some of the decoration of the marriage hall, including flower arrangements. The task is not that tough to perform and if done in-house can be inexpensive, considering you are not hiring an external agency to do it. Another way to manage your budget would be that instead of buying expensive bouquets from the market, wild flowers that are readily available are made use of to make appealing bouquets.

The venue is probably the most important feature of a marriage. You must put in significant effort in ensuring that you are selecting the right venue. Selection of a venue should be dependant on how many attendees the venue can accommodate, where it is located and what all facilities it provides.

Wedding photography is another key aspect that requires cautious consideration. The euphoric moments of your wedding day must be captured by the photographs and they must stay as images that will spark off all your beautiful memories when you see them after several years of married life.

You must choose a cameraman only if you are happy with his style. If you are based in Singapore, then this should not be very difficult. To find a good Singapore wedding photographer, all you have to do is a quick search by going to any search engine that targets Singapore results using the keyword ‘photographer wedding’. In fact, you can also discover some great prices for wedding photography services online.

Tips For Hiring A Good Corporate Photographer

Sunday, January 17th, 2010

Corporate photography is an offshoot of commercial photography. However, the scope of corporate photography is quite big and a person practising it should be highly skilled in his art.

Corporate photography has a lot of aspects that differentiate it from other kinds of commercial photography. For instance, in other forms of photography, the photographer gets the opportunity to redo his work by requesting for retakes or by making use of different angles, but in corporate photography there is no such freedom. Hence it is important to hire the services of a capable corporate photographer.

Corporate events can have changes in event schedules and the photographer has to be prepared for the surprises. He should know how to think rationally and practically so that he can act promptly. Someone who is conscious and shows urgency besides having an overall sense of what is going on around him can perform remarkably as a corporate photographer.

Taking headshots of corporate honchos is an essential component of corporate photography. These headshots might find their place in the organisation’s archives or be printed on the pages of newspapers. The photographer must therefore be especially good at this.

The mere reputation of a photographer does not certify his competence in corporate photography. A popular wedding photographer might think that managing a corporate event is easy, but he could very easily embarrass himself. Weddings generally have a well defined sequence of customary rites, so a photographer can ease himself and keep a tab on the proceedings by following the series of events. On the other hand, in corporate photography, situations emerge when one least anticipates them, and the photographer must stay prepared for them. Therefore, an experienced corporate photographer is the right guy for the job

Corporate photography serves many important business functions and by remembering and working on these tips you would be able to hire someone who can do justice to your requirements. But before engaging a corporate photographer, you should always remember to have a look at his portfolio to make sure of his claims.

Tips On How To Capture Those Special Moments At Your Wedding Event

Sunday, January 17th, 2010

An event photographer is someone who you want to photograph your wedding. They should be motivated, have good experience and communication and most likely they will have their own style. Event photographers will only possess these qualities if they are well trained, so make sure they have experience so they can focus on what you want.

Every event photographer will have their own style. Your ideas about your wedding should coincide with the photographers style. Otherwise you might end up having a horrible experience. Every event photographer will have a different style. Traditional and wild are two extreme styles of photographers. Traditional pictures will consist of those of the bride herself, the groom himself, the bride and groom together, the wedding party, and everyone all together. Wild styles can be anywhere from being completely serious in all of the pictures to making funny faces.

An event photographer should be highly motivated, try to find one who is. You do not want to have someone who is inactive and sitting around missing all the good pictures they could be capturing. Motivation is not just about wanting to do the job, but finding a way to enjoy it and bring trust as well as good verbal communication to everyone as well.

Over time is the only way an event photographer will gain experience. Make sure you ask your photographer how long they have been in the business, where they attended school and for how long, and who they were employed with before they went into business for themselves (if that is the case). Asking these questions can help you make a clear decision when choosing an event photographer. If they are now employed by themselves you can find out what kind of work they produced when they were employed by asking their previous employer. Its better to find out now even if it is kind of a sneaky way of getting the information.

Make sure that you are relaxed around your event photographer. When you are around them they should make you feel comfortable as well. Later on at the wedding, this will help them to capture the precious photos. You will see the emotion in the wedding pictures if you are nervous around your event photographer.

Top Ten Sitcoms of All Time

Thursday, January 7th, 2010

Three’s Company: This show started in the 1970s and was a surprise hit. A guy pretending to be gay and living with 2 women was very provocative back then. Maybe even taboo to many during that era.

10. The Dick Van Dyke Show. A downright hilarious show which has since then become a classic and a measuring stick for all comedians. Even as we approach an entirely new era in comedy, this show is still comparable.

8. Arrested Development. A newer show created by Ron Howard. Based on the lives of the once wealthy Bluth family. Very funny and unfortunately did not last a very long time on the air.

7. It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia. A very funny show which gives off the same vibe as Seinfeld but with a more adult theme added to it. You will love the characters.

Six. I Love Lucy. Possibly the most popular sitcom of all time. Since first airing in 1951, the reruns of this show have been non-stop.

5. Curb Your Enthusiasm comes from the creator of Seinfeld. A very funny television show which tends to use some profanity during the episodes. Very funny and packed with sexual innuendos.

Four. The Simpsons. Yes, it’s a cartoon. But a cartoon that has been making us all laugh for 20 odd years.

All In The Family. Another one of the classics that opened more doors for other sitcoms. Incredibly funny but they did so with intelligence rather than cheap shots.

2. Seinfeld. The funniest sitcom of all time? Many believe so even down to the very last episode.

One. The Honeymooners. Jackie Gleason once said that they were four people on one small set that managed to be funny and entertaining without profanity or any sort of sexual innuendo. Most of the episodes took place in the Kramden’s kitchen with only the four primary actors. And it was funny.

The Early Years Of MMA: Ali Vs. Inoki

Tuesday, December 29th, 2009

The UFC has only recently brought mixed martial arts to the mainstream in the US, but in Japan there’s a long tradition of fights pitting contestants from different disciplines against each other. While they’ve only been called MMA or ‘mixed martial arts’ in recent years, the sport clearly has its roots in these early contests between wrestlers, judo fighters and boxers. In Japan, Antonio Inoki’s fights against world famous martial artists brought great notoriety to the still evolving sport.

Inoki would often face other martial artists in fights that are widely accepted to have been “worked” (having a predetermined outcome) in the same manner as professional wrestling matches. While Inoki faced a number of karate, judo and boxing champions his most famous match was certainly his fight against world heavyweight boxing champion Muhammad Ali.

There’s still much speculation about how Muhammad Ali came to fight Japanese wrestling legend Antonio Inoki, and even more uncertainty about what happened immediately before and during the fight. Ali took the booking because he thought it was to be a big paycheck for little work. Most accounts suggest that his handlers agreed to the ‘worked’ finish without his knowledge, and once he found out that he was to ‘take a dive’ he refused.

By the time the fight began, Ali’s handlers had obtained a ridiculously one sided set of rules that prohibited Inkoi from using a closed fist, striking Ali in the head at all, using any chokes or submissions or even trying to take the fight to the ground. Were it not for the huge amount of money he’d be leaving on the table, Inoki would have been justified in not fighting at all under these highly restrictive and one-sided conditions.

Despite the repeated howls from the media that the fight was ‘fixed’, it was anything but–it was a real fight and painfully boring. Ali did next to nothing, Inoki did whatever he could within the one sided rules. Eventually, Inoki spent most of the fight on the ground trying to throw kicks at Ali’s legs. The event ended up as a 74-74 draw. Both fighters got paid, and the fans got to watch a fight albeit a really, really bad one.

An interesting postscript to the fight is that the referee was former pro wrestler “Judo” Gene Labell, a legit tough guy whom some have suggested could have beaten up both Ali and Inoki at the same time despite his advanced age. Had he chosen to do so, it would certainly have been welcomed by those watching the fight live and on closed circuit.

After the fight, Inoki’s popularity in Japan was greater than ever. He became something of a hero for trying to fight despite having the rules so decidedly in his opponent’s favor. He’d continue his fights against other martial artists and remain one of the country’s most popular sports figures for years to come. His ‘worked’ martial arts matches can be credited with sparking later hybrid promotions showcasing pro wrestling and martial arts that evolved into PRIDE, RINGS and the major Japanese fight promotions of today.

The MMA Legacy Of Helio Gracie

Monday, December 21st, 2009

Gracie family patriarch and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu pioneer Helio Gracie died in early 2009 in Rio de Janeiro at the age of 95. Its impossible to overestimate his influence on martial arts, and particularly his pathbreaking role in what is now the sport of mixed martial arts. The Gracie family name will forever be synonymous with Brazilian sports, jiu-jitsu, MMA and the UFC”not only due to Helios own accomplishments but the legacy he created both by training others and through his family.

Helio Gracie began training in judo early in life, and by the age of 16 had already begun to teach others in his native Brazil. He was bothered by judo’s reliance on ‘brute strength’, however, and along with his brother Carlos began to adapt many of its forms to a new fighting system more reliant on leverage than strength. This prompted the creation of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ), frequently called Gracie Jiu Jitsu in his honor.

Gracie also had a professional fighting career of his own, taking on champions from other fighting disciplines in an early version of modern MMA. These bouts were grueling, unregulated affairs with rules that were often made up as they went along and time limits that seem barbaric by todays standards. By his own recollection, he had 15 fights against the top fighters of his day. These included pro wrestlers, boxers and other martial arts specialists.

His most famous battle was against Japanese judo legend Masahiko Kimura, resulting in a rare loss for Gracie. Despite the setback, he fought bravely and may have actually enhanced his legend after refusing to submit to a reverse arm bar (the same modern MMA submission that now bears Kimuras name). Only after his arm was broken did his brother Carlos throw in the towel.

Gracies influence on the Brazilian sports scene, and later the nascent sport of mixed martial arts, would continue through his family. Married twice, he had seven sons (Rickson, Royler, Rolker, Royce, Relson, Robin and Rorion) and two daughters (Rerika and Ricci), many of whom went on to make their own mark on the fight sport world. Royce Gracie is well known as the first UFC superstar, while sons Rickson Royler, Renzo have also achieved considerable fame in professional MMA. At the time of his death, Helio Gracie was a 6th Dan Judo black belt and the only living 10th degree master of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

Gracie died at age 95, after suffering stomach problems though the cause of his death was officially listed as ‘natural causes’. His last words are classic and highly fitting for a man who gave so much to martial arts and fighting sports:

“I created a flag from the sports dignity. I oversee the name of my family with affection and nerves of blood.

Understanding The Differences Between CFL Canadian Football And The NFL

Thursday, December 3rd, 2009

While football in the United States is associated with crisp autumn days and cool nights, in Canada professional football begins in the summer time. While NFL training camps won’t open until mid-summer by then the Canadian Football League (CFL) will be well into their regular season schedule.

Most Americans dont realize that the CFL has a lengthy and storied history. The league itself has been around since’30, and the Canadian Football championship–known as the Grey Cup–has been contended since’09. More recently, American fans are aware that a number of NFL stars got their start in the CFL including Doug Flutie, Jim Kelly, and Jeff Garcia.

While the CFL plays football at the highest professional level of competition outside of the NFL, there are a few differences in the game:

At the most basic level, the football itself is bigger than the NFL ball. It is longer and fatter than the NFL ball. The CFL goal posts are on the goal line, while the NFLs are on the end line at the back of the endzone. The CFL field is also longer (110 yards) and wider (65 yards vs. the NFLs 53.5 yards), and the CFL end zones are 20 yards deep as opposed to 10 yards in the NFL.

CFL teams are allowed to have 12 players on the field at a time, one more than is standard in American football. The extra offensive player is a wide receiver, and on defense they’re allowed an extra defensive back. CFL teams allow a team only three downs to move ten yards as opposed to four in the US game–references to a team going “two and out” are common on CFL broadcasts.

There are also differences in the scoring of the game. The first time I saw a CFL score tied 1-1 at the end of the first quarter I thought I was hallucinating. A major rule difference between the CFL and NFL is the fact that teams can score a single point, which those clever Canadians call a single. Basically, a team is awarded a single point for a missed field goal or a punt that lands in the end zone.

Of all the rule differences between the NFL and CFL the one that has the most significance on the game isnt enforced on the field; its enforced in the GMs office. Canadians are big on laws and rules to protect their national identity–thats why their TV and radio stations are required to devote a certain percentage of their airplay to Canadian content. That has led to a number of Canadian-only media stars both good (The Tragically Hip, Sloan) and bad (Avril Lavigne, early 90s white rapper Snow). The CFL has a similar rule which requires that’ of the 40 players on a roster must be Canadian born. This keeps the CFL from becoming a de facto NFL developmental league, and helps maintain its unique identity.

Many US football fans look at the rules that include more players, a wider field, and fewer downs meant to encourage more passing and expect to see a wide open high scoring style of play similar to Arena Football. That’s not really how it works out–most games end up with final score totals in the 40’s, but the game itself really isn’t much more offensively oriented than its American counterpart. The rules may be different, but as in the NFL you need a solid rushing game and a stout defense to win games and championships.

The requirement of native born players making up 50% of a CFL roster also results in a much more even distribution of talent across the league. Certainly there are good teams and bad teams, but the end result is greater parity than is found in the NFL.

Among the ‘non-Canadians’ on the team, its also important to note that the CFL doesn’t get the highest level US college players. Most with NFL ability are in the NFL, or on a NFL team’s practice or developmental squad. There’s definitely some American players that are uniquely suited to the CFL game, but the general level of talent is similar to that seen in the Arena Football League.

The bottom line is that despite the rule differences and personal quotas the CFL game is still football and can be enjoyed the same way. Once you understand the unique attributes of the Canadian game youll start to enjoy it almost as much as the NFL.

In the pre-Internet era, it was often difficult for US fans to find information on the CFL. They don’t get coverage on ESPN, but they receive extensive attention in the Canadian press. Each CFL city has their own sports media, and the official CFL website also has many resources including previews and statistics.
