What Does A Certified Public Accountant Do?
Wednesday, June 24th, 2009One of the most important people to hire when it comes to any business is an accountant, specifically a Certified Public Accountant. Not only will you need their help to keep your books balanced, they will also protect you from either paying too much taxes or too little.
Paying too much isn’t too big a problem. You’ll get a refund from the government, eventually. Paying too little, though, could get you in trouble with the government.
But what should you expect your CPA to do, exactly? The main service that a CPA offers have to do with assurance services. or public accounting. In assurance services, also known as financial audit services, CPAs attest to reasonable disclosures, the correction of material misstatement, and the usage of the applicable generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) in financial statements.
CPAs also have found a need for them within the income tax preparation industry. Many small and average-sized accounting firms operate both a tax and an auditing department to perform these services. Whether they are employed for services directly to the public or on behalf of companies or associations, CPAs can have a niche in almost any dimension of the financial world.
CPAs can also be engaged by companies in the private sector. In large companies, they can join upper management in finance positions, for example, Chief Financial Officer (CFO) or finance manager, or as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to make use of their full business knowledge and practice.
These CPAs do not give their services directly to the public, but are very valuable in keeping investor confidence and making rational investment decisions.
